designboom / 100% design present their 2nd international design competition. anybody may participate. submissions are accepted regardless of nationality and age and the competition is open to professionals and amateurs alike - free registration required. '100% tiles prototypes' --- 01 - the subject of the international competition is ‘100% TILES’ it is all about decoration and contemplation. we are looking for outstanding aesthetic and design characteristics. tiles add color, pattern, and texture to both interior and exterior settings. decoration could be hand-painted, carved, sculpted, mosaic, machine-stamped, new production technology ... new materials, new applications and/or new interpretations of tradional applications - the survey needn't be limited to the use of tiles in such conventional settings as kitchens and baths; there might be plenty of suggestions for tiling areas such as stairways, halls, home-offices, fireplaces, floor coverings for indoor- and outdoor entryways, gardens, pools and fountains, balconies, and even furnishings... --- 02 – awards selected works will be on show in london, 23-26 september 2004, at the 100% design fair venue. if you didn't love tiles before you saw this exhibition, you will! ... the winning entry will receive a free-booth for the 100% show 2005. selected works will be promoted by 100% design 2004 via media relations activities. designboom will publish an exhaustive results report. --- 03 – the jury is composed of - birgit lohmann, editor-in-chief designboom.com - ian rudge, managing director 100% design - barnaba fornasetti, designer, son of piero fornasetti (I) - kazuhiro yamanaka, designer (UK) - fernando and humberto campana, designer (BRAZIL) --- 04 - design criteria participants should explore the potential of decoration. we are looking for tile prototypes new designs (decoration, materials...) and/or concepts, projects should not be currently in production, previously published or exhibited projects are accepted. projects will be judged by their - use of innovative materials - on concept / creativity - new ideas for utilizing tiles in today's homes - quality of decorations. --- 05 – registration deadline application registration will be accepted through july 20, 2004. teams register with one name only - when submitting works you should add all team member’s names. (there is a maximum enrollment, registration may close prior to that deadline) --- 06 - entries whether you're an individual or group, you can submit max.3 works. images requested: - tile prototype or mock up (tile simulation); - concept / decor / material illustration; - tile application in an ambient. ( please note: don't add any personal data - name, country, age ... - on your images and text descriptions, as submissions shall be anonymous.) --- we invite you to use our new on-line publishing system which allows all designers to publish their projects directly on our server, making the jury process faster and more transparent. as the designer, you can publish, verify and modify the lay-out of your page. the new system will allow a larger number of designs to be visible to the designboom public, thus giving designers greater visibility. you will be requested to supply: 1 - up to 3 images of your project. please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 100 kb each file. image size max 600x600 pixels. if you are not able to reduce the size of your file please see the tutorial on how reduce the size of your file with photoshop. - high-resolution image(s) will be requested if your work is selected for the exhibition - 2 - explanation of ideas a brief description of your work.
