today there is much talk of ecological design :
the only ecological design I know is that of manufacturing fewer objects
I've decided that I'd like to find a way to turn old shipping pallettes into folding lawn chairs.
it seems like these are such a waste of wood. every factory shipping dock,
car repair shop or train yard has piles and piles of these going to waste.
I also like the idea of sitting on a palette chair. I remember lots of good times spent as a teenager
hanging out in alleys with friends with stacks of paletts as our stools.

I've sketched out the folding mechanism with the key feature being the back held up by a spike
of wood stuck in the ground. It also allows the back to be raised to any angle.
I want it to be able to fold back into a palette for storage, to still be able to be used as a palette
and to show it's origins.

I decided that my wooden palette folding chair should be a do-it-yourself project so I've done a
that has a description and drawings and a page that is the plans and instructions.

'hatchling'
my premise was to create a folding chair that was 'something' else in its folded state and not merely
a consolidated chair. I imagine eggs lying around until they are needed to 'hatch' into chairs.
I also have not seen too many folding upholstered chairs.
this one would be blond leather to match the egg concept and to be more 'animate.'

'nick' folding chair,
having a single back leg gives it a little more fun...
I imagine these rectangular forms would look better in sheetmetal, like a tractor seat.
I also like the idea of something heavy like casters or wheels at the bottom of the chair.
