dutch studio 24H architecture has completed a highway support center along the A28 road in assen, the netherlands. designed to keep salt dry, a large wooden gridshell roof unites the structure, supported by concrete walls and flooring. the building also contains various technical and storage facilities beneath two long green roofs. shared workspaces and a canteen are found at the crosspoint of the two canopies, providing for all the site’s users. the trees used to complete the structure’s columns were cut on site, while the rest of the timber is from locally grown forests, designed in such a way so that additional treatment is not necessary. above, solar panels provide energy not only for the new buildings, but also for an adjacent office complex.
