this subtly twisted tower found on the corner of 13th street is an addition to new york’s meatpacking district by morris adjmi architectsthe original plan for the structure was deemed too tall for the historic district and took nearly a year for the new plans to be approved by the landmark preservation commission. drawing inspiration from the area’s industrial past, most of the building’s load-bearing structure is on the exterior and in the core, this maximizes floor space by reducing the number of columns used internally meanwhile, the dynamic torqued exoskeleton is composed of glass and steel which mirror the way the streets conjoin within the neighborhood.

located across from the high line and the standard hotel, it is developed by taconic investment partners and the existing red-brick warehouse where the four-storey tower sits has been restored where original awnings and meat-hook features still remain intact. morris adjmi’s contemporary creation now serves as a 54,000 sqm commercial building which incorporates eco-technology into its architectural system and as an overall building, it is a subtle nod to the infamous new york district.
