in a back alley in abeno, osaka, japan, a row house once existed. after it was abandoned, a series of young designers cooperated to bring the architecture back to life for a new purpose: to serve as a gallery space called ‘abenoma‘. the interior is redefined by an uncommon but simple material: tracing paper. the creators found it to be an interesting and fun process, manipulating the textile haphazardly to develop a texture with depth. the random ridges, folds, crevasses, and peaks capture light and shadow in unique ways. the resulting tactile surface also turns into a bar at night, providing multiple programs of active and passive recreation for the surrounding community to enjoy.
