developed with the prospect of expansion, ‘afsharian’s house’ in kermanshah, iran by tehran-based ReNa design studio caters to the client’s prospective plans of providing their children with a separate unit within the same building in the future. the resulting architectural approach enables the building to be easily extended vertically, following the same floor-plan where additional floors can be constructed.

like a sculpture emerging from the street, the residence is characterized by its distinctive timber façade. the panels subtly set back where there are windows, the slightly protruding form of the structure angles back, setting the ground floor back from the sidewalk and exposes the entrance in an interesting way for the inhabitants and visitors- meanwhile allowing a small area for greenery.

currently at a height of three-storeys with an area of 312 sqm, the interior design continues the concurrent theme of versatility. the floor arrangement is spacious with double height spaces, brightly lit and displays a material palette of concrete, timber and exposed brick. the rooms on the upper floors is connected by a suspended bridge over the atrium granting a sense of openess and views of different areas in the house. standing uniquely on the street, it is contemporary in design and form, but at the same time offers inherent durability for now and the next generation.
