negotiating an extra small site in the jongro area of seoul, korea, AnLstudio have conceived the very compact ‘mondang house’, whose name translates as both shortness and dreaming. the structure is comprised of three levels and a roof deck, limited by its 6 meters wide and 5.5 meters long property. the kitchen and library are spatially connected by a small opening between offset floors. this allows for exchange of views, sounds, scents, etc.

in order to maximize usable area, the roof is accessible and functions as an outdoor terrace, providing views of the urban context. additionally, the residence contains irregular windows and a prominent skylight, as well as a spiral staircase for spatially tight vertical circulation. the irregular form of the overall building volume is reminiscent of the rocky mountains outside the city.
