spain-based architects antonio garcía blay and josé antonio ruiz sauna have designed the town hall of la mata de morella located in castellón, spain. the new composition consists of a large multipurpose room that acts as a meeting place and recreation space for the residents and visitors of the city. situated in the local square, the commission consists of an expansion to the inn leaving adjacent the historic building and attached church council unaltered. the slope of the site provides expansive views of the valley that can been seen from the upper floor. the new public space connects the lower zone of the village through a new street and staircase that runs underneath the structure.
