a symbol of energy at the expo korea in yeosu, korea, the ‘GS caltex pavilion’ by german practice ATELIER BRÜCKNER is an
open-air pavilion for GS caltex, a korean oil corporation. mimicking rice fields, this structure is formed by 380 free-standing elements
reaching 18 meters in height which sway in the wind like blades of grass. as visitors touch the slender columns,
pulses of illumination are sent through the facade in waves, adding an interactive component to the brightly illuminated exterior.
at the center of the site, interior spaces are enclosed within a star-shaped footprint host a spatial sequence for social networking.
upon entering through the raised corners, mirrored walls infinitely refract the extents of the energy field.

on the upper level, a seven meter high room features panoramic projection which displays poetic black and white images
depicting a harmonious relationship between the company and nature. shadows cast by people within the space becomes
a surface for a back-projection, aiming a message to the individual.
