the dramatic black and glass exterior of ‘burma boutique’, by parisian firm atelier du pont, is in direct contrast to the delicate objects on display. located in rue de la paix, the hanging elliptical cases — reminiscent of a portrait gallery and hand-held mirrors — have a weightless, floating appearance. this theatrical entrance carries through into the interior, which has been designed like a large-scale jewelry box. diffuse light shimmers over the surfaces from an enormous chain-mail chandelier enhancing the glittering environment. the muffled atmosphere has comfortable seats and custom-designed furniture, which has been built with acute attention to detail. a refined interplay of straight lines and ellipses, the experience of ‘burma boutique’ is magnetic and unique.
