engaging with its surroundings, ‘T house’ by atelier KUU sits between a cluster of trees on a site near a japanese national park. externally, the timber cladded residence  is comprised of several rectangular volumes which supports distinctive, sloping roof canopies. the central focus of the house is the open-plan, double-height space containing a kitchen, dining and a mezzanine level with a master bedroom. simultaneously, a platform level serves as a simple reading space which sits above the living room- acting as a connecting buffer between the ground and first floor. the interior blends traditional and modern japanese aesthetics, illustrated in the private tea room, floor seating alongside a modern kitchen, and a contemporary black chimney. due to the lack of openings on the façade facing the street, majority of the light comes through the large glazings from the private courtyard formed by the enclosed volumes.
