bahadir kul wraps mersin stadium in turkey with perforated façade

 

 

 

bahadir kul architects has shared their one of their latest stadium projects located in mersin, turkey. with the capacity to seat 25,000 spectators and based on an area of 55,000 square meters, the sports arena’s landscape is designed to connect and bring pedestrians to the area. positioned on the main road, the stadium connects to city center. throughout the architecture process, the criteria asked to reduce traffic as much as possible. on site, there are 1,295 parking spaces planned for cars and 46 spaces for public transportation.

bahadir kul decided on the stadium’s distinctive form to be an elliptic shape. the shell is a symbolic form which defines the relation between landscape and structure but also sets a boundary to the area. furthermore, the envelope created by the elliptic form covers all the public areas from the top. the material of the envelopes adapts to the climate in mersin and provides spectators and soccer players with a comfortable area. in terms of material, the steel structure is wrapped with a perforated façade and topped with a polycarbonate roof. the seating circulates the vast playing field which is covered with high quality artificial grass.
