in a country with more bicycles then its residents, there is a proposal to add 6,000 bike parking spaces at the hague central station. the project will be overseen by the dutch practice NL architects, who have previously been involved with integrating bike parking at different locations throughout the netherlands. the hague’s main train terminal is already undergoing a major transformation to turn it into a modern transport hub. named after their queen, who often used the bicycle as a means of transport, the new parking canopy at KJ plein square will be situated at the new entrance to the station. together as a point of access and principal bike storage, it hopes to encourage and welcome visitors whilst increasing the amount of people using the space

the concept integrates the parking  into the design of the hall itself. the retail space will be located at ground floor level with provision for bike parking on top; organizing them into strips to form a more efficient layout. the ramp-like circulation routes can be seen below from the retail area  through the glass openings, which also allow natural light to reach into the interior.
