developed as a home-sharing system, the urban nomad flats by architecture studio BIVAK are proposed prefabricated capsules that act as property extensions at the roof level of cities. elevated into an usually calm environment, the shelters offer an innovative typology of lifestyles with a wide range of possible functions.

the urban nomad flats would hover above the city, acting as property extensions and even new genre of furniture

by occupying the unused zones of the city, BIVAK’s urban nomad flats can be perceived as another genre of furniture that offer a fresh perspective on the urban landscape. these units can be installed as a sauna, look-out, guest room or even become part of a hostel network. the construction can be easily pre-fabricated and integrated into the site by using renewable basic materials such as wood. in addition, with its frame-like structure, transporting and replacing the flats would be cost-effective since it doesn’t require the aid of a crane.

proposed installation on roof landscapes

sustainably speaking, renewable architecture has become an indispensable asset in today’s world. therefore, after the wood turns weary, it can be adopted as a renewed energy supply. on the other hand, the project not only requires installing new infrastructures but it can also be linked to existing ones in place (water and sewage systems) as well as reusable or alternative energy sources (solar panels). finally, each capsule can be accessed via an application for rent or online reservation; the term of the residence depends on the users’ needs.
