salvadorian practice cincopatasalgato has recently shared with us one of their newest projects located in the hills just outside of san salvador. built for an environmentally conscious client, ‘la piscucha’ is a home of stone, steel and glass that beckons its inhabitants to live outdoors as much as indoors. situated upon a concrete plinth, an array of white steel columns supports a faceted metal-ribbed canopy that almost gives the sensation of flight. the central living space has a direct connection to all the bedrooms which in turn offer calculated views of the capital. exterior decks defined by full height sliding glass doors and rich wooden panels within the modules established by the primary structure erase the thresholds between what is interior and exterior. a small pool, timber decks, and gardens bring the environment into the livable space, which can be read almost as individual structures within an independent shell. to fulfill the client’s green considerations, the construct enjoys plenty of natural light while deflecting excess direct sunlight through the folding overhanging roof and protected spaces. a rainwater collection system in conjunction with grey water filtering and recycling allows the structure to become more self sufficient, while operable windows and the various decks allow for cross ventilation.  even the timber planks used for the board-form concrete were salvaged as cladding on the primary upstairs bedroom.
