design blitz is a california-based architecture firm that specializes in tech company interiors. despite being given a short time line and budget, they were able to establish a collaborative environment for the san francisco, CA headquarters of squaretrade, with bold colors and simple geometries. the rectilinear forms reflect the company’s name and logo.

the office interior is finished with a neutral base highlighted in bright solids and bold patterns

a central hive of activity is finished with a honeycomb of acoustic ceiling panels. the space is lined by a series of study pods and private meeting rooms that separate this area of high activity from the main office. their angled orientation creates sightlines through the building, which are emphasized by finishes and lighting.

playful cut-outs, windows, cantilevers, and reveals are inserted into the skin, which encloses collaborative workspaces. these voids allow a transparent relationship amongst the different functions and activities within the office. their height and proportions relate directly to the level of privacy needed in the enclosed room beyond.

the partitions are offset from the ceiling to allow mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to flow through the building. this upper area is then finished in a dark gray that allows them to blend into the structure without much notice.
