international architecture studio FARRELLS, has been chosen to masterplan two important sites within the qianhai special economic zone in the chinese city of shenzhen. the two plots are located in a prime area of the developing district, adjacent to the qianhaiwan metro station. the scheme plans to boost trade between shenzhen and neighboring hong kong.

the project incorporates over 460,000 sqaure meters of commercial space, housing grade A offices, serviced residential units and a host of retail outlets. a 320 meter tall tower forms a new landmark for the city, while a pair of gateway towers form the entrance to the mixed-use scheme. the development is inter-connected at various storeys, creating a three-dimensional masterplan for the urban quarter.

‘this project represents a great opportunity to bring sustainable design principles to this dynamic and rapidly expanding part of shenzhen. the proximity of the area to hong kong is important and qianhai will benefit from cross border trade to soon become a thriving district in its own right,’ explained sir terry farrell.
