‘dubai: the metropolitan institute / techno-lab’ by shahram zarkesh, 2003

currently on show at traffic is a selection of architectural models and drawings from students of the school of architecture and design at the american university of sharjah who attended the institution from 2001 – 2009. curated by architect george katodrytis, the exhibition takes a look at dubai and the idea of cities being in constant flux, transforming to fit contemporary urban culture. as one of the fastest growing cities in the world, dubai is an extreme example of urbanism. the projects look at dubai as a place of prosthetic geometries and new morphologies acting as catalysts and variants for transformation.
