sponsored by the municipality of bari, italy, massimiliano and doriana fuksas along with jordi enrich i morns have won the competition

to design the railway area ‘baricentrale.’ while the space has often acted as a rift that bisects rather than centralizes the city, the studio

fuksas proposal responds to the city’s needs for unison with an expansive city park. the greenery provides promenade views of the city and

the sea. the project reframes the blighted area as a green lung and social space. existing buildings will be restored without altering the

architectural character of the city, while new structures will provide municipal offices, an academy of fine arts, a public library and

a generous changing exhibition space. a new 1000-seat auditorium will rise in the center of the complex and sport a fully glazed foyer

and wooden skin. music and nature are emphasized in the revitalized park and station; an outdoor concert venue makes the new

railway area a continuous extension of the bucolic landscape.
