portuguese firm FVArquitectos has completed ‘house in banzão’, a single family residence located in colares, portugal. a series of pitched roofs rise above the low vegetation while a stand of pine trees surrounding the dwelling provides a textured backdrop accentuating the sharp angles of the zigzag profile. the third gable is truncated at the midpoint to reveal an entry that is visually concealed from the main approach.

horizontal wooden slats indicate the vehicular entry point while the weathered texture contrasts and softens the consistent exterior plaster finish. skylights with translucent glass provide ambient lighting to the minimalist spaces and corridors. the shower contains a glass exterior door which can be opened to provide dwellers with an immediate connection to an enclosed courtyard of plantings.
