in an existing garden with a swimming pond, hammerschmid, pachl, seebacher architekten has integrated a small house with a floor area of 50 m². during the design process, the studio made sure that the building, which is based on four pillars, would not interfere with the landscape and change its terrain. the façade is composed of rough-sawn spruce boards that have been painted with black swedish mud color. while the color palette of the interior contrasts the exterior, the material use is continued through white oiled birch plywood panels that form the ceiling, flooring, walls, and furniture. the exception arises in regards to the fireplace and the bathroom, where gray fiberboards are used. these spaces are provided light through a glazing arrangement that responds to the dialogue between the enclosed functions and the adjacent context. thus, large spans of glass orient views towards the pond and provide a programmatic connection between the deck and kitchen. correspondingly, the other side of the residence presents a collection of three square windows placed due to necessity while granting a sense of privacy.
