positioned within a 1,000 square meter plot of land in a suburban region of otaru city, japanese architect hiroshi kuno has completed a residential property where internal space is assigned with no specific program. entitled ‘brother’s house’, or ‘house without scenario’, the two-storey dwelling allows its occupants to freely occupy the brightly lit volumes, with their function dependent on shifting requirements throughout the day.

from the outside, a white cuboid is presented to the neighborhood, with a large rectangle of glazing oriented as not compromise the privacy of inhabitants. internally, the timber structure is defined by two curving partitions which allows the even diffusion of natural light, creating three independent areas that remain visually connected.
