located in a peaceful residential suburb of saitama, japan, hiroyuki shinozaki architects has designed ‘house S’, a family home for three occupants. measuring 7.8 meters in both width and length, the interior of the cuboid house is divided by laminated wooden beams assembled in parallel crosses and stacked across three layers.

the property’s living quarters, including a traditional tatami room, are found at ground floor level, while more private volumes are found above. a sleeping space is positioned at an intermediate level with a ladder leading to an intimate lofted area. a central atrium rises through the design, connecting each aspect of the dwelling.
