the british library archives grow a staggering 12 linear kilometers a year. with this fast paced growth rate, the organization necessitates a facility to keep pace. the british library’s new boston spa storage site by HOK will replace the existing space which is made up of older buildings in england’s west midlands. the facility will facilitate the library’s needs and add a distinctive identity through strong design principles. when complete the building will hold up to 80% of the library’s collection of books and newspapers in innovative storage solutions focused on preservation. as the library grows the campus will also, adding some of the world’s largest low-oxygen automated storage and retrieval facilities. the building’s will feature green roofs to counteract the massive area they will occupy.
