'cala d'or house' by flexo arquitectura, cala d'or, mallorca, spain

barcelona- based flexo arquitectura has created an architecture that accommodates the dichotomies of summer and winter. the design for a
private home in the touristic seafront region of cala d'or sits atop a dramatic slope and opens to beach views and garden patios. in keeping with
the aesthetics of the region, a compact white volume is pierced by four programmed terraces. the voids provide cross ventilation and optimal sun
exposure in addition to specific spaces for playgrounds, greenery, lounging and breezeways. the basement floor contains the living area and
outdoor kitchen facility as well as a series of 'summer rooms' linked to the pool. the first and second floors are ascribed the 'winter house',
for they are linked by indoor staircases and organized around a large bay balcony wrapped in a bamboo skin. the portico allows wide-spanning views
over the harbour while providing privacy from the neighboring property. a simple slab-on-grade construction belies the ease and elegance of the
dual programs woven together by careful circulation.

I love the use of Bamboo. Good thinking.
Jim
I really like the blue kitchen, the terrace space with the filtered light through the bamboo, and the void to the back of the living space to give you light from 3 sides, really nice touches. It is a pity they did not put slatted timber or more bamboo to the fit under the terrace, think the way the concrete breaks the composition is unfortunate.
