british architectural photographers hufton+crow have recently visited the village of krumbach, austria, to document the seven disparate bus shelters scattered along the roadways. an international group of designers were commissioned to imagine the structures for ‘project: BUS:STOP,’ including sou fujimoto, smiljan radic, rintala eggertsson architects, architecten de vylder vinck taillieu, antón garcia-abril + débora mesa (ensamble studio), alexander brodsky, and wang shu + lu wenyu (amateur architecture studio).

for additional information on the roadside structures, see designboom’s previous coverage of ‘project BUS:STOP.’

taking very different compositional and experiential qualities, the bus stops all seek to relate to the landscape in diverse ways. while providing varying degrees of shelter from weather forces, the structures consistently consider framed views of the hilly context, while indicating with a strong presence where passers-by may catch the regional transit.
