hugon kowalski: sukkah city

‘O’ – sukkah city by hugon kowalski

polish architecture student hugon kowalski of UGO architecture and design has sent us images of his proposal for the sukkah city competition. participants were asked to design a contemporary sukkah – a temporary hut created for an annual jewish harvest festival in new york.   kowalski wanted to create a form as flexible as possible to make sure that the sukkah could be placed everywhere. they also wanted to make their sukkah mobile – hence why they decided on the form of sphere.

‘O’ was built from zip-ties produced from biodegradable plastic created from corn. this particular building material allowed flexibility during construction. stored inside the sukkah is a folding table, puff-chairs and a sleeping bag.
