israel is an agricultural laboratory and a worldwide case study that exports knowledge, experience, and technology to the entire globe. the cultivation of rocky land, the growth of vegetables in the desert, the invention of new irrigation methods, and the upgrading of seed quality are part of the present-day society marked by creativity, dare, and achievements. the theme of expo milan 2015 – ‘feeding the planet – energy for life’ – provides a unique opportunity to present these characteristics. based on this premise, the israel pavilion has been envisioned by knafo klimor architects, under the title ‘fields of tomorrow’, to challenge hunger and spread prosperity in developing countries.

the structure creates an immediate and powerful visual atmosphere of agricultural and engineering performance. the main feature is a vertical field, which provides a fresh perspective on how food is grown and supplied. its surface is comprised of modular tiles utilized for optimally cultivating products on a steel frame elevated above ground. this is possible through the insertion of a computer-controlled drip watering system into each panel. in addition, cereal varieties and other basic foodstuffs will enhance the overall aesthetic with a mosaic of textures, smells, and colors.

the building relates to its special location at the center of the park, directly opposite the italian pavilion, adjacent to the cardo and the decumanus. as part of the visitor experience, it offers a walk along its façade past these other monuments. the exhibition will present a virtual tour of israel, explaining the advancements that the nation’s scientists and farmers have accomplished in the agricultural sector.
