j. mayer h. has presented designs for a pavilion to be built in karlsruhe, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the german city. in 2015, the temporary pavilion will be constructed in the town’s schlosspark, hosting various concerts, theater performances, readings, film screenings, and exhibitions during the festival season.

the project features a large auditorium with a stage forming the central information point for jubilee activities, and a meeting point with a café. the twisted pattern of the pavilion refers to the geometric radial layout of the baroque planned city – manifesting the urban grid as a spatial field of lines. on several layers in and on the structure, exhibition platforms, resting spaces, and viewing platforms will emerge. the construction of the timber scheme will begin in march 2015.
