brazilian bungalow, ‘AMB house’, by bernardes + jacobsen arquitetura, inverts the typical domicile typology of social space below bedrooms, giving inhabitants their maximum privacy, and integrating the dwelling into the extensive landscape. built on a steep jungle hillside, one enters at the top floor and descends into the primary living area, which maintains a low profile along the road. the third level entryway is a mezzanine that overlooks the double height living room. encased in glass, the design takes advantage of extensive views of the virgin forest context. this connection continues as the deck and infinity pool laterally extend the structure across the slope, opening views to the sea. bamboo trees inside, and palm trees planted at the second floor deck blur the boundary between growing and built environments. surrounding vegetation provide privacy and shading for the suites on the lowest level. built of cumaru wood (brazilian teak), which frames vast panoramas, this spacious hillside home is integrally linked to the jungle in which it has been placed.
