JDS architects: chongming bicycle park

belgian practice JDS architects have designed the ‘chongming bicycle park’, a competition proposal which includes a bike museum, visitor center and multipurpose hall in chongming, china. an urban oasis from the city of shanghai, the complex welcomes individuals with an entry landmark which evokes imagery of the evolution of the sport. a series of tilted and rimmed disks create the roof structure of the visitors center generating a park symbol and marking the information point.

the main attraction is a double helical museum which encourages riders to bike downward along an outdoor perimeter ramp. a multipurpose hall is placed upon an adjacent island. the exterior of the building is surfaced with a network of intertwining undulating paths and terraces set at diverse elevations, offering panoramic views of the landscape and grounds.
