ateliers jean nouvel has completed ‘renaissance barcelona fira hotel‘, a complex comprised of two 27-storey towers that soar to a height of 110 meters. the scheme, photographed here by roland halbe, is characterized by its distinctive façades, which comprise leaf-shaped windows. the theme of nature is continued internally, where palm trees and natural vegetation is incorporated throughout. vertical gardens connect the scheme, rising upwards through the central atrium, and providing natural light and ventilation. at its peak a rooftop pool provides an area of external recreation, while a cocktail lounge and premier restaurant offer panoramic views across the city.

ateliers jean nouvel worked alongside spanish firm ribas & ribas for the project, designing the contrasting black and white façades of the building, which present alternative elevations to the surrounding block. this contrast is reflected internally across the hotel’s 357 rooms with the wall-to-wall white interiors of the deluxe guest accommodation juxtaposing the onyx-black palette of the junior suites. the vast program also includes 11-module based meeting rooms across one floor, parking provision for 140 cars and a fitness area with an acclimatized indoor pool.
