the ‘wetzikon residence’ is a contemporary interpretation by JOM architects of an 85 year old single family home that inhabited the site. apparently beyond repair, the entire structure was torn down and a fresh one raised. rather than returning to its single-family roots, the ‘wetzikon residence’ is composed of various apartments ranging in size from one-to-five bedrooms, as well as a double-height artist’s studio/loft.

most features of the original early-20th century dwelling have been recreated in the project including: a vertical volumetric appearance, classically styled symmetric façades, and vertically structured red stucco with clamshell brick construction. in addition, large concrete window sills supplement the home, furthering its solid, steadfast appearance.

a centrally placed staircase allows access to apartments, giving it a single-family feel. the main entrance is placed on a mezzanine floor, of which there are several throughout. the parking garage is the largest space on the site, and has no columns due to its hanging from the central stair’s core. this space, when not full can be used as an event space or party hall. the home is located in the small city of wetzikon, switzerland
