featuring a faceted dome-shape, the ‘garden-atelier’ designed by zurich-based jose luis berrueta in collaboration with leos zeman of prague-based studio zona architekti serves as a retreat from daily life. the low-cost 28m2 get away is located in the backyard of an existing family house in klanovice on the outskirts of prague in czech republic. the space-ship looking form consists of geometric panels that are punctured by the volume’s openings – door, windows and skylights – with deep frames to protect the interior from direct sunlight. the inside consists of a toilet, shower and an integrated kitchen with space for different recreational and artistic activities. a big window on the northern façade allows indirect light to filter through, enhancing the visual connection between the existing house and the garden, while still offering a sense of isolation.

the walls and roof were built using prefabricated wooden components, delivered from a workshop nearby in seven pieces and assembled on site in just one day. the structure was closed with plasterboard panels and in-filled with mineral wool, with the surfaces and frames sprayed in polyurethane foam and white coating.
