local practice klopf architecture has completed the remodeling of an eichler home in burlingame, california. the property originally served as a group dwelling for up to twelve people before being converted into an open, bright and spacious family residence. the design’s interior has been fitted out with mid-century furniture, collected by the clients over a period of time.

the brief called for a more connected design that increased the functionality of utility spaces and expanded the kitchen to accommodate for a family of five. ancillary areas have been widened, while a huge single plane island for entertaining and carrying out work has been installed. in addition to removing half of the wall between the kitchen and dining room, the solid partition has been replaced with large fixed windows that offer direct views of the back yard. the hallway has also been reconfigured, providing inhabitants with both a full and half bath, laundry room and linen closet.
