peruvian practice longhi architects has recently shared with us their newest project located on a rocky hillside over a beach in pucusana, peru, the ‘casa veronica’. the home is an opportunity for the studio to present a design belonging to a contemporary peru. integrating into the landscape, the design features a clear blend of natural and man-made, as the rocky cliff walls become important facets of the interior and exterior, exposing itself as an organic element embedded within the orthogonal walls. a 40 meter long infinity pool along the front edge of the home presents the artificial, the foreign, not previously existing on site. the pool in on the same level as the social areas – the terrace, kitchen, dining and living rooms, wrapped in a glass partition that spans the length of the footprint. the structural is derived from the use of concrete planes that fold, intersect and overlap one another. local soils were used in the aggregate to make primarily two bands of hues that contrast, intersect and emphasize one another. above the terrace level, two levels of bedrooms floats above the sky complete with shihuahuaco wood-clad balconies. intricately folding geometries that make up the walls and ceilings create pockets of interstitial spaces, at times punctured by circular apertures and wrapping concrete frames. the interior is defined by the meshing of all the various elements of the form in a rich environment characterized by moments of exposed rock and ‘geometricized’ topography. endless edges and lines form textures and endless discovery as the eye is drawn through the different colors and stacked geometries.
