luigi rosselli architects have shared their latest residential project located on sydney’s north shore. the listed heritage building is historical in terms of its age, architecture and location. named ‘heritage treasure chest’ the façade is adorned by the original timber balconies.

throughout, features such as turrets, spacious rooms and balconies define the distinctive property. the architect’s strategy was to maximize daylight and make the residence warm and inviting. the house’s historical characteristics are retained and a large sheltered veranda was constructed at the rear. this component has opened up and placed attention on the back of the house – once dark and introverted – forming a kitchen, dining and breakfast room. the white, movable shutters enable the veranda to be fully opened to reveal the lawn and pool, while protecting the spaces from direct sunlight. and since the addition of the veranda, the family gravitates to the back of the house. the unfolding the panels, the louvered roof, slides open the glass doors to slowly reveal the surrounding landscape.
