since 2009, beijing-based practice MAD architects have organized and offered a yearly travel fellowship to support talented chinese students with an opportunity to travel abroad. this year’s winners have been selected from a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidate applications from 58 institutions and originating from small and large cities in china. the program places the first-hand experience of place as invaluable, and this year’s hundreds of applicants have each comprehended the inherent value.

in collaboration with VERTU, previous winners have traveled to greece, egypt, italy, switzerlnd, japan, germany and the united states. five students have just received the 2012 edition and the fellowship will send ren tianhang to the united kingdom, jin siyang to japan, pan hui to egypt, du zhexu to holland and qin sizhi to cuba.
