los angeles based martin fenlon architecture has completed a bungalow remodel in the small community of hermon, just outside downtown LA. the structure was originally built in the 1920s, but after nearly a century, had become fairly dilapidated. fenlon and team created a street-side addition for the home, which not only updates the structure, but integrates it into the streetscape as well.

the frontispiece maintains a stark contrast with the original home, partially due to its clear cedar cladding that is much brighter than old torched cedar siding. the residence’s gable porch roof was removed during renovations to make a large triangular skylight that brings natural light inside. existing ceiling infrastructure was removed completely to expose the wooden roof structure, and walnut and teak finishes were used throughout to create tonal similarity.
