expanding the existing industrial building, architect massimo adario has renovated the varigrafica alto lazio printing facility in italy. the company, which originally opened for business in the sixties is dedicated to the production of editorial and advertising material and the additional volumes are defined by their programmatic requirements. creating a the series of differently sized elements, the mass is surrounded by a free-flowing garden and orientated around a green courtyard.

the complex is organized from a modular system of 2,40 x 6,00 meter panels that are repeated and used in a number of configurations. the concrete pieces on the exterior façade are treated in a vertical direction for the existing building and paper warehouse, while on the new production side they are placed horizontally. a glass version with a metal brise soleil is used for the elevation of the offices, letting high levels of light through to the interior.
