family entertainment center ‘espace ludo‘ sits on the first floor of the renovated halle secrétan – a former covered market situated in the heart of the 19th district of paris. the building which was built by victor baltard in 1868, contains a 300 m2 space which includes a coffee shop, youth area, video and digital activities, game evenings and art workshops. the project is managed by the association espace 19 who called upon industrial designer matali crasset to re-imagine the interior of the space.

the layout is divided up into three main areas. the first area is for families with small children. the space features a large cabin which is placed at the center of the room, where children can meet and play in sight of adults. the interior contains a neutral backdrop including white walls and light-colored wooden furniture. modular furniture adds a pop of colour, including green cushioned chairs which are dotted around a hexagonal table where the learning and drawing activities are hosted. seating is also placed upon the corners of the play den allowing parents to sit while watching their child play.

the second area which is close to the kitchen, is a place for adults to relax over-looking the city. the third space – just for teens – is slightly set-off in a calmer corner, set around a digitally-oriented activity centre. the room contains a casual ambience, with a bleacher-style unit where you can either sit or lie down. all of the furniture can be easily moved around to organise festive events in the evenings, creating an adaptable environment which responds to all age groups.
