following the curvature and incline of the street in luxenbourg, metaform architects have explored ways to tackle problems that are typical to collective housing in urban areas. the series of 15 units respond to the local height legislation, the surrounding context, terrain conditions and overall vision of collective housing typology to ultimately give the inhabitants a sense of belonging, identity and community.

metaform’s resulting approach sees the structure of reinforced concrete wrapped in an enveloped of aluminum panels marked with a triangles. from above, each housing block seemingly unfurls out of the other. this creates a subtle transition by splitting the main volume into six smaller, vertically shifted blocks. in this way, the building is adjusting to its surroundings; it preserves the required density, while offering the feeling of belonging, identity, human scale.

at the same time, this distinctive organization addresses the issue of privacy by enhancing the vertical communication, while eliminating long horizontal, often dark and acoustically unfavorable corridors. three vertical cores connect underground parking directly to the apartments. this solution allows for the transversal apartment configurations with three-side orientation and in turn, give residents a possibility to meet and get to know each other in a common shared indoor space. the underground space has been put to use and offers storage to every residence.
