mili mlodzi ludzie has developed a rustic project called the ‘livable basement’ within the brick walls and vaults of a 19th century tenement in poznan, poland. the existing details are only cleaned and left uncovered, underlining the unique character of the space. meanwhile, warm colors of wood and white are meant to bring more light to the apartment.

a large lamp with a diameter of two meters distinguishes the central locations of the residence. its warm rays shine from the whole surface of the diffuser, illuminating the living room evenly, achieving an effect similar to a natural power source. furthering this feature is an app which would help controlling the intensity of the brightness according to outside conditions.

partitions made of birch plywood separating different amenities. white roller blinds hidden behind the construction enable in an easy way to close the kitchen and sleeping zone. this practical, cost-efficient solution allows the use of the whole integrated area or hides the more private programs in case of any visitors. replicating this capability on a smaller scale is the dining room table that has been specially-designed. the top surface can be opened for alternative functions.
