the ‘fuschia villa’ by mima NY studio and vietnamese firm realarchitecture was designed and built in the thao dien district 2 in vietnam. seeking to develop a language of simplicity throughout the project, the house is conceived through a complex overlapping of geometries. a white, cantilevered box punctures through the ground floor volume, becoming a distinguishing feature as it hovers above. the stacked geometry pushes and pulls in different directions, achieving 8m wide openings despite the challenges this posed for the structural stability of the house. the contrast between the two levels is enhanced through the application of different finishes and materials, with the white level delineating a strong geometric presence. a large horizontal band of shutters spans across this upper piece, offsetting the textured stone below.

the use of natural materials forms a cohesive dialogue between the structure and its surrounding landscape, while an outdoor barbecue area is constructed using the same stone applied to the exterior façade. the layering of simple forms enables the interior to feature large open-plan spaces, providing a degree of flexibility for its occupants through this layout. a double-height living and dining room connects directly to the outside pool and deck, with expansive glazing filtering daylight in.
