the ‘nexus’ proposal by architect moatasem esmat for the natural sciences museum in berlin sits gently within its urban landscape. the volume is articulated by an assemblage of geometries that are based around the natural flow of the site. forming an intricate structural composition that is both solid and symbolic, the design integrates an inner courtyard that offers views from the inside and also helps to administer sustainability features.

a continuous exhibition space lines the interior, creating a journey for the visitors as they venture through the site. a mixture between metal cladding and concrete materials provides a visually dynamic pattern that helps the ground floor to stand out. the museum’s roof defines a strong silhouette, with long spanning structural elements that respond to the surrounding city fabric. green roofs were placed on top of these concrete components to help it blend in further with its context.
