in a moderate sized plot of land, architect naoya kawabe has placed two individual family homes adjacent to each other. the duo properties: Y and M, are located in the coastal area of kamakura, japan. although they share the same garden, their skewed orientation allows both of the homes’ inhabitants to go about their daily lives without interfering with each other. without the use of fences or a boundary line, the area has been divided equally, with a similar internal configuration. a tree planted presents a slight boundary between the dwellings at ground level, meanwhile, the windows are arranged differently to present alternate views of the park-like, garden surroundings.
