in montpellier, france, local practice NAS architecture has placed an abstract and inaccessible garden at the center of a slender circular table, inviting passersby to gather and contemplate on their surroundings. completed for the 2014 international garden festival of chaumont-sur-loire, the concept is based on the theme ‘gardens of the deadly sins’ and interprets this through the plantation of red vegetation, designed to contrast the purity of the white furniture. exploiting this natural juxtaposition further, the flower bed intends to be powerful and alive, while the surrounding chairs and communal table are fragile and delicate. seating is oriented towards a gap in the trees, presenting views of the passing loire, the longest river in france.
