vietnamese studio NISHIZAWAARCHITECTS has conceived the factory space for a steel manufacturing company. known for addressing the user and architecture with nature and landscape, a floor-to-ceiling rotating door system has been installed in this scheme — seen before in the firm’s townhouse project in ho chi minh city.

the building encompasses a standard factory exterior comprising a flat roof and brick envelope. the more interesting elements have been kept for the interior allowing NISHIZAWAARCHITECTS to base the factory as aesthetic object and in turn, focus on creating flexible and functional spaces. the factory is articulated around a 16m x 16m open-air tropical garden. this verdant courtyard celebrates the tropical climate and can be fully enjoyed when the wall of rotating doors are opened, encouraging airflow and refreshing the internal working environment.

to meet the demand of the budget for standard built-in factories, the simple cubic form features a 8 meter-span grid system. the use of bricks for the exterior allows the building to evolve as a landmark with the natural clay color contrasting the surrounding neighborhood. furthermore, old bricks were collected from abandoned colonial buildings and re-used for the external envelope. the oversized roof made of galvanized corrugated metal is lifted to form a cantilevered-canopy that protects indoor working areas from harsh sunlight, wind, and rain.
