it has been announced that NL architects will complete arnhem’s ArtA cultural center in the netherlands. the 8,500 square meter proposal beat off competition from bjarke ingels group (BIG), kengo kuma and associates and SO-IL, envisioning an ‘urban moraine’ capable of accommodating an exciting and diverse mix of public functions. the site houses both the museum arnhem and the focus film theater, bringing together creative individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.

‘clearly inspired by the assignment, the architects fully appreciate what the city of arnhem needs at this location. this is clear from the various ideas suggested in their proposal, such as the projection screen on the rhine and the dock shelter. it demonstrates an open view of the contemporary arts cluster, whereby interaction with the surroundings could take surprising forms’, commented the jury, who praised the design for its enthusiasm.
