NMS arquitectura completes bar do jardim latitude cafe + lounge in portugal

surrounded by high trees and lakeside pathways, the ‘bar do jardim latitude cafe + lounge’ by portuguese studio NMS arquitectura forms a strong connection to its varying outdoor landscape. located in jardim do calvário, penafiel in portugal, the site already contained an abandoned structure that needed to be completely refurbished. reestablishing an entrance to the existing playground, the volume fits in around large trees to help it blend into the garden.

the indoor area offers two distinct atmospheres that are directly related to the spatial qualities of its exterior – two opposing environments: the calm lake and the busy playground. designed as a wooden box with concrete beams, the choice of materials helps to create a series of different spaces, by overlapping glass panels and in between zones.
